We've told you all about Kadha - Our Immuni'tea' booster before. Kadha/ Karha is an age-old Ayurvedic home remedy.
Charak Samhita the ancient text of Ayurveda describes ways to consume medicinal herbs. One of those ways is “Hima” an herb induced concoction, prepared and consumed like tea using ingredients that can't be juiced like dry spices and herbs so the best way to extract their benefits and medicinal qualities is to make a decoction along with other natural immunity boosters like turmeric and tulsi.
FUN FACT:
Kadha is not made using leaves from the Camellia Sinensis family of plants, however, the method used to prepare the brew is the same as chai, where the ingredients are brewed in hot water to release their flavors.
Our herbal kadha has a mix of several Ayurvedic herbs. These pacify the Vata and Kapha stimulate digestion, increase immunity, and also detox our body.
Today we want to share our tips on brewing the perfect Kadha and also the story of each Kadha, it's origins, name, and the culture that goes behind it.
Remember, when you shop from a small business like ours, each product you get has a backstory, it has years of research, passion, and love behind it. The roots of our Kadha are deeply intertwined with Ayurved and Indian Traditions. Each herb, spice, and root that we use to make Kadha has several health benefits and has been used in traditional herbal medicine for years. Some of the herbs and spices are used in the worship of various gods. One of the objectives of worship is to charge the Idol with offerings and prayers to assists in spiritual progress. The substance offered to each Idol is said to have the ability to attract the blessings of that Deity, so offering Tulsi is said to please God of Shri Krishna and offering Turmeric is said to please God Malhar.
  1. Krishna Kadha - Tulsi Tea
/ Kṛṣṇa/ noun ;
Inspired by God Krishna’s love for holy basil.
While we wrote about the benefits of the ingredients of this brew in our last post. Today we want to explain the reason Tulsi aka Holy Basil was chosen as the star of this brew.
Holy basil as its name suggests is commonly known as the herb of the gods.
There are 2 main types of Tulsi plant - Black Tulsi which is also known as Krishna Tulsi and White Tulsi also known as Vishnu Tulsi. While Krishna tulsi is considered to have more medicinal properties, Vishnu Tulsi is also a well-known healing herb. Our Krishna Tulsi Tea is made using Krishna Tulsi.
In Hindu culture, Tulsi is a sacred plant. Scientifically called Ocimum tenuiflorum it is an aromatic perennial of the Lamiaceae family it is native to the Indian subcontinent. It grows to a height of 2-3 feet and occasionally flowers with tiny lavender blooms which turn into seeds called Sabja seeds.
Surprisingly, these seeds are very similar to chia seeds and can be soaked in water and eaten. These seeds are rich in phytochemicals, antioxidants, polyphenolic flavonoids like orientin, vitamin A and vitamin K, zeaxanthin, beta-carotene, and lutein. Important minerals like copper, calcium, potassium, magnesium, manganese, and folate can also be found in Sabja seeds. The leaves and seeds of the plant are packed with health benefits.
Our 100% Natural TULSI TEA is made using the queen of herbs aka holy basil. It can be consumed for additional relief from the early signs of sickness like a runny nose, cough, cold, headache, itchy throat, body aches, mild digestive ailments, and weakness. Additionally, tulsi tea helps in maintaining normal levels of cortisol, helps to stabilize blood sugar, has anti-microbial properties that promote dental health, and more.

Almost every Indian has a Tulsi plant in their yard or windowsill. Tulsi is known as Holy Basil because of its extensive healing properties.
Tulsi has been used in Ayurveda for centuries to cure stress, increase metabolism, relieve aches, soothe insect bites, calm stomach ulcers, and more.
Rich in antioxidants that may help limit diabetes & high blood pressure. It is a good supplement to ease joint pain as a constituent of the oil in the basil has an anti-inflammatory effect on joints and the digestive tract
In Hindu culture, Tulsi leaves are offered to the god Krishna, Vishnu, or the holy sages.
Vaishnavas traditionally used prayer beads made from tulsi stems or roots- an important symbol of initiation. Tulsi has such a strong association with Vaishnavas, that followers of Vishnu are known as "those who bear the tulsi round the neck"

Hindu's worship Tulsi plants as an avatar of Goddess Lakshmi.

Traditionally, tulsi is planted in the central courtyard of Hindu houses or temples. Back home, it was our daily ritual to pray to the Tulsi plant in our Tulsi Vrindavan (holy basil pot) by offering water, flowers, a lamp, and lighting an incense stick two times a day. We would do this before we went to school and in the evening before supper.

2. Malhar Kadha - Turmeric Tonic
/ Māl.hār/ noun ;

Inspired by God Malhar’s love for Turmeric

This Kadha has 3 front liners
Lemongrass, Turmeric, and Ginger.
In our earlier post, we mentioned how lemongrass is close to our hearts and the health benefits of turmeric, ginger, and lemongrass in Kadha but we decided to name this Kadha after Malhar the turmeric God.
Malhar is a manifestation of Shiva and is worshipped with Turmeric (Bhandār). At the Temple festival in Jejuri, India- devotees often shower turmeric powder (Bhandara) on each other. The idol of Malhar holds a bowl of turmeric in one of his hands. Turmeric is associated with sunlight and the sun's nurturing, healing powers that fuel life on earth. Malhar is worshipped for his nurturing and healing powers much like turmeric.
Our 100% Natural TURMERIC TEA can be consumed for additional relief from the early signs of sickness like a runny nose, cough, cold, headache, itchy throat, body aches, mild digestive ailments, and weakness.
