1.5 oz. Nutmeg
Our nutmeg comes straight from a spice cooperative on the islands of Zanzibar and Pemba in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Tanzania. Nutmeg comes from an evergreen tree native to the Spice Islands near Indonesia. Spices were introduced to the islands in the 1800s when they were ruled by the Omani sultanate, and many of our partner farms have been growing spices for generations.
Nutmeg is actually the nut from the Myristica fragrans tree. Mace is the aril around the nutmeg.
In ancient India, sleepless babies would be given a minuscule amount of nutmeg, now that we know that nutmeg contains myristicin, a substance with psychoactive properties, this doesn't seem like the best idea.
While it can be toxic in large quantities, a person would have to consume many tablespoons of ground nutmeg for it to cause harm. In the tiny quantities when used for cooking, nutmeg is harmless.

Nutmeg is great with savory dishes, rice preparations, chole, chili, or pasta. Other great applications include peach pie, date muffins, spiced cocktails, eggnog, porridge, or any other sweet dish.
